the blogging church members

Blogging church members are becoming more common these days. It is a new paradigm for the pastor. I personally think it's cool for Christians and church goers to blog, but I also know that it comes with responsibility as well.

As a pastor and blogger and pastor of bloggers I think a few words of caution are in order.

If you blogg...

1. Remember once your words are on the Internet, they will NEVER come off.

You write your thoughts with a permanent marker for the whole world to see.
Be open and honest but not too open and honest. It's a blog not a therapy session.

2. Write your passions.

What moves you? What stirs you? There is only one you and you are pretty interesting with a unique perspective.

3. Allow the Lord to use your blog.

It's not all about you. Share testimonies, praise reports, prayer request, etc. Keep lifting Jesus up. You never know who will stumble upon your site.

Anyway, just a few thoughts from a fellow blogger and pastor.

Self Disposal Not Self Improvement

These are some books I'm reading. I will be posting exerts from them. Hope you enjoy and leave your comments. Here is the first.

"Christs' cross was the sinners cross; not of course in the matter of atonement Godward, but in the taking of the of the old-creation life to the cross so that the believer could be delivered from the power of sin- and that, not by conquering it but by dying to it."

- The Centrality of the Cross, Jessie Penn-Lewis

God's solution has always been self disposal not self improvement. So much of what is taught today in church is self help. Psychology is good and very helpful, leadership is of much value, business principals are in great demand. Should we really teach these things from the pulpit? Should we give so much attention to learned "skills"? What would you think if attended a church and the sermon topic was "How to buy a house" or "How to grow tulips"?

Surely we would say that this preacher has diverted from the integrity of Scripture and gotten off track. Unless of course you were in the market for a house or trying to grow tulips.
