As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”- Luke 10:38-42
Here we have a clear example of the two covenants. Mary & Martha have opened their home (hearts) to Christ and they have two completely different modes of living out their new faith. Martha represents the old economy of Law. This is works righteousness that strives through serving to earn an audience with Christ. It was tradition and customary to serve guests as they arrived to your house. Mary on the other hand broke custom and tradition and chose to rest at the feet of Jesus. Mary represents the new economy of Grace, resting in the finished work of Christ. Notice the reaction of Martha toward Mary, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself?” Typical response of a legalistic mindset is to be critical, tired, and bitter and feels the need to question God. “Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Well I have found myself wrestling at times, but striving towards righteousness, if you stay and rest, will you drift away??
Striving through the flesh to obtain or maintain righteousness will only produce more frustration.
The key to true spiritual power and to knowing Him, is to become like Him in His death . Then we will know the power of His resurrection and fellowship with Him in His sufferings.
Self is always the problem and never the solution.
I meant striving through Christ Jesus, not through self.

I had a friend with me at church when you talked about Mary vs Martha. She really got alot out of that service. I had been not sure about the subject with her and that day without me even having to say anything, she got what she needed out of your words. Thank GOD for equipting you with the words that we needed...
