John Olgetree 0f First Metropolitan Church speaks at Ultimate Impact 2008 Mens Conference, Friday night, June 20
Ephesians 5:8-21
Light symbolizes the favor and presence of God.
We must remind ourselves that we are to be light to this dark world.
We are men of light!
As men of light our lifestyle should reflect light. Our language should reflect light.
The reason that Paul wrote chapters 4 and 5 was that there were far to many Christians who were “Slipping into darkness” He had heard about what was going on within the believers.
Some of us have the prepotency to “Slip into darkness”
It could just be that someone who you work with, live with or play with is not even aware that you are a Christian!
Every young man needs a mature man in his face, challenging him with wisdom and correction when he makes bad decisions.
While I agree with that, I look back at all the men that I have mentored and I am convinced that GROWN men also need someone from time to time to get in their face and correct and encourage them to do the right thing.
If we are going to be men of light we need each other.
I am intrigued by the “Dude” commercials. Not the product but the philosophy that is promoted. When “inappropriate behavior” is displayed by another man someone is there to step in and say “DUDE”
We need men of light who are ready wiling and able to fight and get in another brothers face and say “DUDE!”
I think of the friends that I should have got into their face and said something; maybe I could have saved their marriage. Maybe I could have saved them from destruction.
D-U-D-E
D- Devout lifestyle- Eph. 5:8 We need men who have a devout lifestyle. We need men
who are sincerely devoted to God. Not Sunday morning men, not conference men, men of light.
U- Uncompromising Character. Eph. 5:11-13, This is the man who doesn’t allow the
culture to change him, he changes the culture.
D- Discerning Nature- Eph. 5:15-16, This is a man who is careful how he lives.
E- Empowered by the Spirit- Eph. 5:18, This a man who cannot be under the influence
of any other spirits. The Spirit must control our thoughts and our motivations.
When you see another man messing up get in his face and say D-U-D-E!
