Texas prison reforms praised

Long known for its tough-on-crime image, Texas on Thursday was hailed nationally for a package of reforms designed to curb its wildly growing prison population. But even as lawmakers were lauded for innovative programs for drug and alcohol abusers, Texas pushed past California to become the nation's leader in putting people behind bars.

As a person that comes from a background of drug addicts and drug dealers, I say if you do the crime you do the time. It has affected my life, as a child and now as an adult.I think its a cycle, the drug dealer goes in to prison, comes out and does the same exact thing. I dont think that Prison, is hard on their inmates, if that was so, these habitual convicts would not be doing the same thing, over and over again.

That's good wer're putting them behind bars, but are they coming out reformed?
Many that are let out on parole go right back in. The prison system needs a place where the inmates can choose to make a heart change.
Through out my life, I've seen men in my family go in and out of prison. There isn't one out of all of them that have made Jesus number one in their lives.
They were all preached to and testified to and taught the Word of God but not one of them has become a preacher or even a living witness of Christ.
I beleive that many men are in prison because they didn't have any direction, (any Fatherly direction). I'm sure some did but the majority, I don't think they did. I know the ones I knew didn't.
In my opinion, to reform an inmate they need the Max Man Cirriculum along with the preachings and teachings they already get.
Thank you Jesus the day we can take Maximized Men to the prison system!!!
In JESUS name, Amen???--t.n.

As the daughter of a habitual convict I have found that prison does not conform inmates...if anything my father came out and turned around and went right back in through out my whole life...even as an adult he's still there now!! Before I knew Christ I thought prison was my saving grace because I didn't have to worry about waking up the next morning and hearing he was dead because of his drinking/drug problem...I always said the only reason he was alive was because of prison. BUT now my perspective had changed greatly...now that I know God I know he is the only saving grace in my fathers life!!! I LOVE my father dearly even though our relationship has mainly consisted of letter writing, and I can't help but feel that the fear of him coming home has subsided....I feel that with God on our side he actually had a chance!!! I miss him...!!!
